For about the past two-ish years, I have enjoyed the morning company of my Back to Basics Egg and Muffin Toaster. This love affair had baffled my husband, because this toaster is what I refer to as a cheat. If it makes kitchen duty faster and more convenient - it has been, in my eyes, a cheat. Microwave? CHEAT! Garlic press? CHEAT! Pre-packaged chopped onions? CHEATTTTTT! But at 5:30 am - I loved my precious cheat. It would toast my English muffin, poach my egg and heat my Canadian bacon all while I leaned against the sink rubbing my eyes out of my head muttering vulgarities under my breath. Want a soft boiled egg you didn't have to baby sit? My little toaster handled it for me. It would whisper - "Go ahead - I'll take care of everything - you dump your head in that sink of ice cold water - your toast and egg will be perfect when your surface." My toaster understood me.

But alas, that little wonderful bundle of toaster and I were not meant to last.

I began to crave fried eggs with crispy edges, and thick sliced apple smoked bacon. My toaster could do neither, and so he just toasted my muffin. But he found no fulfillment. How can a poacher not poach? He pondered in the wee hours of the morning." Did I not make the most brillliant soft boiled eggs on the planet? Was your Canadian bacon always moist? WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?!"

Then one day, he was gone. I woke up to find his coils would heat no more. He would never brown another muffin again. For weeks I would use the broiler to brown my muffin. My husband said I was nuts and that the energy the oven used for just a muffin was just plain wrong. (I should know better - I am a self proclaimed Greenie.) But a girl has to mourn. Weeks would pass before I would finally look for a replacement.

When I began the quest for the toaster of my dreams - this is what I found:

toaster.jpgNow I know how much my electric bill is monthly. I am pretty sure if I tried I could figure out the allocations to laundry, pool, oven...

But I am damn sure all the bills in my lifetime would never equal up to the price of this toaster.

At least they offer free shipping.

*By the way, the new toaster I finally settled on is a Cuisinart 2 in 1 Cool Touch 4 slice toaster with racing stripes and a Bose 8 speaker stereo system. bug.gif
